Use the HYPATIA online interactive analysis tool on real data and discover the Z and Higgs bosons


The aim of this platform is to use a simple and user-friendly interactive interface to closely simulate the procedures used by actual high-energy physics researchers to improve the signal-to-background ratio in order to discover new particles.

 

The analysis involves the following steps

  • Open the HYPATIA online analysis tool
  • Load large samples of events (both simulated and real data available through the ATLAS open data)
  • Use the samples to understand how the researchers optimize the event selection criteria
  • Analyse the data
  • Compare simulated and real data after optimization in order to make discoveries
